Gardening Gifts FAQ:

I mean like how does it benefit your body as in carrying around bags of mulch, raking the soil, and how it adds to your physique.

well, in my experience, it gives great backaches, makes nice sore fingers, un usually good for making sore muscles. benefits are great. other than that , it is the best exercise you can get. plus the satisfaction.

it’s a good way to exert yourself physically without it feeling like a “grind” and because you have something to show for your results in terms of pride of your garden, you’ll often put more enthusiasm into it.

It makes **** muscles from squatting, it keeps your knees working so if you squat you can get back up. It gives you a sense of accomplishment–it puts food on the table flowers in a vase and you are part of the bug food chain also—gnats, mosquitoes, eeehhh. Raking and using a hoe keeps you from getting bat wings on your arms. When you go back inside you can take a good nap knowing there was a job well done.

I get all sorts of physical benefits from my garden, and mental ones, too. The mental ones are being able to get outside and get the cob webs out of my brain, and the quiet peacefulness of it. (We live in the country.)
Physically, the ones you mentioned are good ones. I also find that getting down on my knees and planting and weeding helps my back and stomach muscles. I can tell by the soreness I have at the beginning of the season, and the absence of it at the end of the season. I work my arm muscles by pulling weeds. (I’m the one who opens the stuck lids on jars.) There are all sorts of benefits. Whatever job there is to do, will work some set of muscles. Even just the walking from one place to another is exercise. I also find getting up and down (I do a lot on my knees, then go to another spot and work on my knees again.) is kind of like doing deep knee bends. If you really do your gardening (even in a small one like mine), you will get all sorts of aerobic exercises!! And you’ll get a good tan, too!!!
